Introduction

This design is intended to permit considerable customization by each owner while benefiting from essential design continuity and building technique advantages that help keep the cost down. For example, because we are building a series of Strong 45's the yard is able to purchase raw materials and plate cutting in bulk lots, further reducing the construction costs.

We have dubbed these boats Strong Yachts apropos of their essential character. The ideas for Strong Yachts are based on the founder of Anchor Yacht & Ship Sales, Tor Pinney's nearly 150,000 nautical miles logged under sail, 15 years living aboard sailboats full time, and 10 years helping other sailors find and acquire the boat they want. Obviously, as the name of these vessels implies, we are aming for strengh with our boats. Aluminum hulls are the strongest in the world for their size and type - even stronger than steel! - and that translates into greater safety both offshore and close in. Other characteristics of our Strong 45 include heartwarming performance, relative stiffness (she sails upright, not on her ear; ergo...) comfort, sea kindliness, superb craftsmanship, low maintenance, clean good looks and relative affordability. Did I leave anything out?

Ah, yes. We build quite a few features into all Strong Yachts that few other boat builders, and no production builders that we know of, include in theirs. We will list some of them here in my next update. They're impressive, intelligent and based on a half-century of combined boat building and liveaboard cruising experience.

Description

Because these are semi-custom-built boats, our customers can change many of the features to suit themselves. Cutter, ketch, schooner or sloop; center cockpit or aft; raised salon or flush deck; a more plush finish; less draft... We invite each individual customer to decide how they want their boat tailored to meet their needs. Ease of customization is one of the many benefits of metal boat construction. And if customizing our stock plans doesn't do it for you, we'll create an entirely new design just for you. Whatever it takes to create your dreamboat, chances are we can do it.

Here is a brief description of the Strong 45 designed for Tor Pinney. A much more complete builder's specification is available on request:
