Cape Island Trawler
Letter Of Introduction

Dear Fellow Boater,

Thank you for your interest in Cape Island trawlers. I'm Josh Hodgson, builder' s representative and worldwide distributor/dealer and for these superb Downeasters. My office is located in beautiful Brewer Cove Haven Marina, one of New England's most capable boat yards, just outside of Providence, Rhode Island. I invite you to call me or stop by anytime!

For three generations, our family-owned Nova Scotia boatyard has been building Cape Island trawlers . Today, they still build the toughest and by far the most popular commercial fishing trawlers in Nova Scotia, and their Cape Island trawler hull is perhaps the most time tested and sea-proven of its kind in the world.

Just in case you're wondering whether this same commercial boatyard can produce a finely finished yacht, consider that in addition to designing and constructing many custom yachts, they also produce the famous Cape Horn world-capable trawler yachts. Our modern facility and experienced staff can meet and exceed the most demanding requirements.

Cape Island Trawlers are no bang-em-out production boats. Each vessel is hand-built for her owner, a semi-custom-built fiberglass yacht available with larger or smaller, single or twin diesel engines of your choosing. The Cape Island 45-to-55-footers come from a fixed hull mold, but are otherwise entirely customizable to meet each individual customer's personal needs. The Cape Island 43, a cockpit sedan “lobsteryacht”, comes from a complete set of hull, deck and superstructure molds. Still, there is a certain amount of customization possible, particularly with the interior arrangements, so don't hesitate to tell us what you want. If it can be done without compromising the integrity of the vessel, we'll do it.

North America's most proven trawler design, semi-custom built by Nova Scotia's finest craftsmen at production-boat prices. That's a tough combination to beat. That's a Cape Islander. As you will discover, Cape Island trawlers represent a remarkable blend of proven sea-keeping abilities, traditional good looks, old-world craftsmanship, modern construction techniques and, thanks to the Canadian currency exchange rate, outstanding value.

At this writing, there is only about a 4 to 6-month wait for a new Cape Island 43, and about 6 to 8 months for a 45/50/55, but that's likely to increase very soon. If you are serious about casting off in a new Cape Islander in the next year or so, now is the time to secure a production slot with a deposit.

While you're browsing the site, please take a look at our incentive offers: the exclusive Cape Island Purchase-Leaseback Program , the win/win 5% Discount Offer , and our new Owner-Agent Opportunity . These programs are flexible, but they're not for everyone and you can certainly order your Cape Islander without them. However, if one seems to make sense for you, give me a call and let's talk about it.

After you have reviewed the Cape Islanders' information online, please call or email me with your questions and comments, or to schedule a visit to the builder's facilities in Nova Scotia. I look forward to hearing from you soon and to helping you learn more about Cape Island trawlers.

Steady as she goes ,

Josh
